“This beauty is a beast,” – the new tagline for TaylorMade’s newest line of elite irons and its performance is sure to match its beautiful design. We got the scoop from our on-site TaylorMade Club Fitter, John Habegger on the TaylorMade P790 iron.
“If you’re looking for a soft and responsive feel, yet wanting to produce big-time distance, than this shiny new hardware is the perfect addition to your golf bag.” says Habegger. With P790, TaylorMade’s engineers answered the challenge of creating an iron that delivers distance along with enhanced playability and feel. The P790 features a soft, 8620 carbon steel body combined with a high-strength forged 4140 carbon steel WrapFace in a hollow body design. The hollow construction of the P790 iron creates a cavity that is enclosed with SpeedFoam Technology, a new proprietary concept that serves dual purpose of increasing ball speed as well creating a forgivingness normally associated with less player-oriented designs. The innovative SpeedFoam also provides support to the face and is a vibration dampening material that makes the P790 unlike any iron in the TaylorMade family.
Beautiful as it is powerful; the P790 offers a clean and stylish design, giving them an off-the-charts shelf appeal. From the back view, they look like a muscleback iron, with a no cavity visible behind the face, just a clean, metallic iron hiding its great innovation and technology. Compared to TaylorMade’s previous ICT, which has a larger and heavier profile, the P790 iron is ultra-light with a slightly smaller face area, making it a club for a wide audience.
“During my testing, the distance on the 790-iron was big and it was fast, increasing my ball speed by 4 miles per hour and my yardage by 8 yards.” expressed John. “The new iron really made a huge improvement in my performance.”
